Oasis de Castilla is a public park and botanical garden located in Bogota, Colombia. The park is part of the larger Parque Simon Bolivar, the largest park in Bogota, and is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, as well as several recreational areas. Oasis de Castilla also contains several important historical sites, such as a statue of Christopher Columbus and the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.The park’s most impressive feature is its botanical garden, which includes native flora such as orchids, bromeliads, and ferns, as well as exotic flowers such as bougainvillea. There are also a number of bird species that inhabit the park, including hummingbirds and toucans. Oasis de Castilla also contains a number of monuments and structures, such as a small memorial dedicated to the victims of the Colombia-Peru War, which took place from 1899-1902.Overlooking the park, from the highest point, is the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, a 19th-century church which represents the important role of Catholicism in Colombia. The chapel can seat around 800 people and holds Mass regularly.Aside from its natural beauty and historical significance, Oasis de Castilla is a great spot for recreational activities. The park is equipped with a series of trails and paths, perfect for cycling, running, and walking; a large lake where you can row boats; and a playground with slides, swings, and seesaws.
